Healing through music has been used by many cultures throughout the ages to treat illness. From classical music to rhythm and blues, studies have shown that music can help restore and improve both physical and emotional wellbeing. Through the skilled use of music therapy, registered music therapists can provide comfort and support to palliative care patients, easing feelings of isolation and fear.
To date, the Peninsula Singers have contributed $60,000 to support the Saanich Peninsula Hospital and Healthcare Foundation’s music therapy program in Palliative Care. It is with pleasure the Peninsula Singers perform a mini concert twice a year, at Christmas and in the spring, at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Residential Care Unit. Dianne Taaffe, president of the Peninsula Singers, says that they choose to donate to the music therapy program as they “believe music lightens the soul, brings us closer together and is joyous.”
