Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundations‘ Music Therapy Program
The Peninsula Singers have donated $50,000 to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital & Healthcare Foundations‘ Music Therapy Program. The Foundation’s Executive Director Karen Morgan’s says,
“Music therapy is increasingly taking its place as an integral part of end-of-life care. It is an innovative way to meet the multidimensional needs of the terminally ill and their loved ones. Rather than living exclusively in the realm of their final illness or mortality, patients, through music therapy, are encouraged to smile, cry, become energized and explore their creativity. By transcending their failing body and fears, patients feel a fuller sense of self and participate in a spiritual activity that comforts on both the emotional and physical levels. Whether participating in our Residential Care “bell choir”, or receiving one-on-one therapeutic sessions, music therapy can lessen feelings of isolation and loneliness, perceptions of physical pain and anxiety or agitation. Peninsula Singers have made an enormous contribution to the quality of life for our community’s most frail seniors.”
